World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game drew 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It additionally is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s strongest playoff performance since 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
