One two-month journey through the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the death of an elderly lady who was abandoned by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a pause. The vessel departed without her and went back later that day after the crew became aware the lady was not present.

A major hunt discovered her person the next day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the event, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that passengers and staff on the ship were notified that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and prior engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" banning any additional guests from entering the ship.

The official said that they would attend the liner in the port city upon its return.

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the time of the senior passenger's death. The remote island was the opening port on the journey.

Passengers on board - who usually pay substantial amounts of dollars to join the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the option of walking or snorkeling.

Family Reaction

The child of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "surprised and grieved that the vessel left the island after an scheduled outing without my mum".

Through her comments, she described her mother as an "active octogenarian" who was a affiliate of a hiking organization.
