The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking different ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Responses: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
