The British designer Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer behind many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
