Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”
It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “However, I can share, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”
NYPD released surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims were reported.
The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.
“The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.
Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on early August and was carted from the field.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
