Grief as Popular South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.
The motive of the incident is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises close to the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the building overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, as per local media.
"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," authorities confirmed.
Security camera video reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and clad in what looked like a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the location.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have requested members of the public who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"We know they covered significant ground after the shooting, and investigators have been following their trail to determine their location," added an official.
Family and Public Reaction
His sister, Nicole Stock, said the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a profound tragedy."
She requested the citizens to not sharing disturbing footage from the scene, noting this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's young family.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that premiered on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.
In addition to his role as a presenter, Stock was engaged in various commercial activities, including private security, offering high-level security services and securing major functions across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in real estate operations and assisted with tenant removals.
Condolences Pour In
His death has shocked the country and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his fans, the government and political parties.
A cabinet official commented he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.
"He was forthright boldly and honestly. He even spoke up against me and my actions as a public official. He was a pure example of who we should be," was his tribute.
A public representative commented the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A media executive said that "Stock was far beyond a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought happiness and vitality to every appearance. His commitment to his craft left an lasting impression."
In a release, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and quick humor, adding that his memory "will be remembered".
