Democratic officials expressed fury after Donald Trump charged a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "turncoats" and asserted they should be taken into custody and sentenced "through capital punishment" following their posting of a controversial video.

The clip, shared on earlier this week, includes six Democratic congress members who in the past served in military or defense roles.

Additional Partisan Reactions

The Democratic Senate minority leader also denounced Trump's remarks and posted on digital platforms: "It's important to understand: the ex-commander in chief is calling for the execution of elected officials."

He added: "This constitutes an clear THREAT. All senators, every Representative, every American – irrespective of political affiliation – should denounce this right away and absolutely."
