One of the original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has announced that corporate owner Unilever prevented the launch of an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the business with his partner, disclosed how he plans to personally create this new flavor as part of a personal series highlighting issues the company was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Founders and Parent Company

This latest development intensifies the continuing disagreement among the world-famous ice cream maker with Unilever, the UK-based consumer goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain that the parent company along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated through social media that he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol for solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its colors, which closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism and Recent Developments

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales in disputed territories.

The new dessert series is being created through Ben's Best, the activist dessert company which was first established several years back to support former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts and Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen stated how he plans to develop other frozen dessert varieties that address issues which the company was prevented from addressing publicly by corporate restrictions.

This development follows partner Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, following decades with the organization, mentioning concerns that its independence was undermined following corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen stated how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence so that the company can achieve the social mission, the principles that established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
